EBG welcomes Candex to CPO Outlook 2026 as an Expert Organisation, 14–15 October at Hotel Birger Jarl in Stockholm. Their argument is that the cost of a small purchase sits largely outside the purchase itself: in the onboarding, the tax checks and the approvals around it.
The thesis before the welcome: Candex’s case is that the work around a transaction is what makes small and one-off purchases expensive to handle — and that the answer is design rather than a stricter policy. How far that holds in a given organisation is the sort of thing worth comparing across a table.
What Candex does
- Operates as a technology-based master vendor in more than 50 countries, taking on the supplier relationship so the buying organisation does not have to onboard each small vendor itself.
- Handles the compliance work around each transaction — tax status, entity checks, sanctions screening — and pays suppliers in their own markets. Platform detail
- Candex Programs covers a second set of payments that rarely fit a standard requisition: healthcare professional fees, candidate reimbursements, legal settlements, charity donations.
- Supported well over a billion US dollars in payments to vendors during 2025. Customers include Diageo, Danone, Roche and Sanofi.
- Extended its Series C past 40 million US dollars in March 2026, taking total funding above 120 million. Announcement
So what — for you, on a Monday morning
The noise Candex talk about is not the money. It is the work around it: onboarding, tax status, entity checks, approvals, reporting. Their case is that this work does not shrink in proportion to the invoice, which is what makes small and one-off purchases disproportionately heavy to process.
Global Head of Sales Janina Insua puts the argument in behavioural terms: a process misaligned with how people actually work does not deliver value, however sound it looks on paper. Her favourite piece of evidence is a requester who reported back that Candex was so easy, they assumed they had done it wrong.
How far any of that holds varies by organisation, and it is the sort of thing better compared across a table than assumed. The Nordic version has its own shape. Small domestic markets mean more genuinely local, genuinely one-time counterparties. Cross-border activity inside the region raises VAT and entity questions on transactions too small to justify answering fully. Volume is low. Complexity is not.
The practical question for Stockholm: where does the admin around a transaction cost more than the transaction — and what would the process look like if it had been designed for those cases?

About CPO Outlook 2026
CPO Outlook is EBG | Network’s Nordic summit for procurement leaders, run since 2010. The premise is straightforward: ask senior practitioners what they most need to discuss, then build the days around the answers. Peer and expert exchange comes before a stage and an audience. That means roundtable discussions, peer labs, working sessions and keynotes, with the peer sessions practitioner-led throughout.
This year’s theme is From Strategy to Practice: Making Procurement Transformation Real. The summit runs 14–15 October at Hotel Birger Jarl in Stockholm. Day 1 closes on the first Nordic CPO of the Year Award. Day 2 is built around a working session on AI in procurement.
