Nordic Procurement 2025: AI, Risk & Future Skills Report
This spring, 89 senior procurement professionals from 81 companies joined EBG | Xperience workshops in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Copenhagen. Together, they explored how to future-proof procurement in the face of digital disruption, rising risk, and shifting business expectations.
The Post-Workshops Report 2025 captures these insights, blending pre-event surveys, interactive mapping exercises, and live feedback from participants.
AI in Procurement: Early Stages, Big Expectations
Nordic procurement teams are actively exploring AI, but adoption remains in its infancy. In Stockholm, a clear majority reported they are still only testing or researching AI, with none yet fully embedding it into workflows.
Copenhagen discussions echoed this—participants shared curiosity about AI agents, real-life use cases, and how to get started without in-house expertise.
Across cities, one message was clear: AI is seen as a game-changer, but trust, data readiness, and clear use cases are the missing pieces. While pilots are underway, scaling remains a challenge. Leaders also stressed that AI should enable—not replace—decision-making, freeing up time for more strategic work.
The momentum is undeniable: procurement leaders are experimenting, benchmarking, and learning from peers to understand how AI can move from promise to practice.
Top Nordic Procurement Priorities 2025
- Operating models are shifting – most of the organizations are moving toward cross-functional collaboration, integrating procurement more closely with finance, supply chain, and sustainability.
- Skills gaps are widening – risk management, supplier collaboration, and digital/AI proficiency top the list of must-have competencies.
- Digital maturity is still developing – 74% describe themselves as only in the early stages of AI and automation adoption.
- Peer exchange matters – across all cities, participants valued benchmarking against others, sharing real use cases, and recognizing that “we’re all struggling with similar challenges.”
From risk resilience in Gothenburg, to AI-enabled procurement in Copenhagen, to skills and strategy in Stockholm, the report shows both a shared Nordic agenda and local differences in focus.
